Furniture and cabinetry: Lean manufacturing software for furniture manufacturing and cabinet shops
LeanSuite gives furniture manufacturing plants and cabinet shops one system for the routines behind on-time, right-first-time orders. It runs setup checklists on saws, routers and edgebanders, finishing defects routed to quality, 5S and guarding audits with photos, near misses and line balancing from video. Every failed check and defect becomes a tracked action with an owner.

The process
Where furniture and cabinet plants lose time and quality, stage by stage
Case goods, cabinets and upholstered pieces take different routes, but most pass through the same five steps. Each one has its own typical loss.
Panel and lumber cutting: panel saw, CNC router, rip and crosscut
Nesting and cutting decide material yield. Setups, program errors and recuts after damage add waste and delay the rest of the order.
Edge banding and machining
Tape, glue and profile changes on the edgebander, and drilling and boring for hardware. A wrong hole pattern is found at assembly, hours later.
Sanding and finishing
Dust, film build, cure time and booth conditions decide whether a part passes first time. Rework here is the most expensive in the plant, because all the earlier labor is in the part.
Assembly and upholstery
Mixed models give each station a different load per unit, so stations wait or pile up. Lifting carcasses and stapling or pulling fabric put strain on backs, shoulders and wrists.
Pack and ship
Missing hardware bags, doors and shelves, and corners crushed in transit turn into service calls, credits and late reorders.
The problem
What slows furniture and cabinet plants down
Case goods, upholstered furniture, office furniture and kitchen and bath cabinets are built in many sizes, colors and finishes, often to order. Here is where that slows plants down.
High-mix setups on saws, routers and edgebanders
Custom sizes, colors and edge profiles mean the panel saw, CNC router and edgebander change setup many times a day: tooling, edge tape, glue and programs. When setups run from memory, the time depends on who is on, and a wrong program or tape scraps a panel.
Finishing defects and rework
Runs, orange peel, dust nibs, color mismatch and sand-through are found at final inspection or by the customer, after all the labor is in the part. Each one is sanded and resprayed, and the cause, from sanding grit to booth filters, is rarely written down.
Wood dust, guarding and spray booths
Saws, shapers and routers injure hands when guards are removed or bypassed, fine wood dust settles on beams, ledges and collectors, and spray booths add solvent vapour. These are daily housekeeping and inspection jobs that slip when orders are late.
Panel yield and offcuts
Sheet goods and lumber are a large share of product cost. Poor nesting, recuts after damage or a machining error, and offcuts nobody uses turn into waste that is only seen in the dumpster.
Missing parts and shipping damage
An order ships short a door, a hinge pack or a shelf, or arrives with a crushed corner, and the service visit costs more than the part. Kitting and pack-out checks done from memory miss parts, and damage is rarely traced back to how the order was packed.
Unbalanced assembly and upholstery lines
With a different product every few units, some stations wait while others pile up work, and the line runs at the pace of its slowest station. Stopwatch studies take days and are out of date once the mix changes.
How LeanSuite helps
How LeanSuite helps furniture and cabinet plants
Each problem maps to a LeanSuite module you can start with on its own, then connect to the rest.
High-mix setups on saws, routers and edgebanders
In LeanSuite: Run each changeover as a digital checklist, get missing tools to the line fast, use step times to cut every setup, and let AI split a filmed changeover into internal and external tasks. Visual steps mean every operator runs the changeover the same way, and every checklist logs how long each step took, so the Kaizen module shows which steps to attack.
Finishing defects and rework
In LeanSuite: Operators scan a QR code and flag the non-conformance with photos, straight from the floor. The NCR alerts Quality and Engineering at once, systemic issues move into structured DMAIC or 8D projects, and the fix goes out as a required One-Point Lesson every affected operator acknowledges.
Wood dust, guarding and spray booths
In LeanSuite: Auditors take before-and-after photos on a tablet, and the checklist can't be completed without them. A failed audit line creates a corrective action with an owner and a due date. Anyone can log a hazard by scanning a QR code with their phone, with no app download and no login.
Panel yield and offcuts
In LeanSuite: Put a cost on defects by capturing scrap, rework, warranty claims and inspections, then rank quality projects by what they are worth. Loss & Cost Management builds a loss tree ranked by cost, and you can start a Kaizen event from a high-impact loss in one click.
Missing parts and shipping damage
In LeanSuite: Build the pack-out check in Lean Creator: make a question required, flag an answer, ask a follow-up, require a photo, or raise a tag, idea or Kaizen. Answer rules on an audit or checklist can raise a tag or start a CAPA automatically when an item fails.
Unbalanced assembly and upholstery lines
In LeanSuite: Film your line and get a Yamazumi chart against takt, then test rebalancing scenarios before you change anything. Balance multi-product lines by the real demand mix and see each station's combined load. Vision AI is priced separately from the facility plan.
Standards
Standards and rules furniture and cabinet makers work to
Which ones apply depends on what you make, the finishes you spray and where you sell. LeanSuite does not certify a plant against any of them; it keeps the records of the checks, audits and actions your own program produces.
- OSHA machine guarding and woodworking machineryThe U.S. rules on guarding saws, jointers, shapers and other woodworking machines, and on point-of-operation guards in general.
- NFPA 652 and NFPA 664The fire codes for combustible dust in general and for wood processing and woodworking plants, including dust hazard analysis and housekeeping.
- EPA wood furniture coating rule (NESHAP)The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's limits on hazardous air pollutants from finishing and cleaning in wood furniture plants, with work practice and recordkeeping duties.
- TSCA Title VI formaldehydeEmission limits and labelling for hardwood plywood, particleboard and MDF, and for finished goods made from them.
- ANSI/BIFMA and KCMAPerformance and durability test standards for office furniture (BIFMA) and kitchen cabinets (the KCMA certification program).
- CPSC clothing storage unit stability ruleThe U.S. tip-over stability requirements for dressers, chests and other clothing storage units.

FAQ
Questions from furniture and cabinet plants
Yes, if you run production with repeat routines: setups, checks, audits, defects, training and improvement projects. The same modules run in any plant, and pricing is one flat price per facility with unlimited users, so a smaller shop does not pay per seat.
Yes, as checklists you build. You set up the inspections in Lean Creator, schedule them to a person, a role or a machine with a repeat rule, and complete them on a phone or tablet with photos. A failed item becomes a corrective action with an owner and a due date. LeanSuite does not make a plant compliant with OSHA or NFPA rules; it keeps the evidence of the checks your own program runs.
Yes, with Vision AI. You film the stations, and the AI times each operator's elements and charts every station against takt as a Yamazumi. You balance multi-product lines by the real demand mix before you move anyone. Vision AI is priced separately from the facility plan.
No. Nesting and CNC software decide how parts are cut, and an ERP runs orders, inventory and costing. LeanSuite runs the improvement routines around them: setup checklists, audits, defect and hazard tags, training records and the projects that fix the biggest losses.
The first module is live in under a week, and LeanSuite's team does the setup. A 90-day pilot costs $3,000 per facility.
