Energy waste at work poster

A lot of a plant's energy goes on things nobody needs at that moment: machines idling through breaks, compressed air hissing from leaks, dock doors left open, lights on in empty areas. This poster lists six everyday sources of energy waste and the habit that stops each, plus an end-of-shift question for the whole team.

The words on the poster

Stop energy waste

If nobody needs it right now, it shouldn't be using energy.

  • Switch off idle machines At breaks and shift end, where it is safe and allowed.
  • Report air leaks Listen for the hiss on a quiet shift. Tag it.
  • Close doors Dock and building doors keep heat or cool air in.
  • Lights off In empty stores, offices and meeting rooms.
  • Don't clean with air Use a brush or vacuum. It is safer too.
  • No standby overnight Screens, chargers and heaters off.
  • End of shift: what is still running that nobody needs?

On the floor

How to use it

  1. 1

Hang it at the exits from the floor, where people pass at the end of a shift.

  2. 2

Run a 15-minute energy walk on a quiet shift with the poster as the checklist.

  3. 3

Agree which machines are safe to switch off at breaks, and mark them.

  4. 4

Pair it with the air and water leaks poster for a leak tagging week.

Which size to print

  • 24 x 36 in or A2: a main wall or team board, read from a few metres away.
  • 18 x 24 in or A3: a station or notice board. The A3 file also fits 11 x 17 in paper.
  • Letter or A4: a clipboard, binder or handout, on any office printer.

Every PDF is vector, so it stays sharp at full size. Nothing runs to the edge of the page, so no bleed is needed.

A poster reminds. A routine makes it stick.
