Spill response poster

A spill of oil, coolant or chemicals needs a fast, practised response to protect people and stop it reaching a drain. This poster sets out six steps for a small spill a trained person can handle: stop the source if safe, alert others, check the safety data sheet, contain it and protect drains, clean up and dispose of the waste properly, then report it and restock the kit. For large, unknown or dangerous spills, it says leave and call.

  2. 2

Practise it once a year with water and a spill kit, timed.

  3. 3

Check that the drains near chemical areas are marked and covers are at hand.

  4. 4

Pair it with the free environmental aspects and impacts register.

Which size to print

  • 24 x 36 in or A2: a main wall or team board, read from a few metres away.
  • 18 x 24 in or A3: a station or notice board. The A3 file also fits 11 x 17 in paper.
  • Letter or A4: a clipboard, binder or handout, on any office printer.

Every PDF is vector, so it stays sharp at full size. Nothing runs to the edge of the page, so no bleed is needed.

A poster reminds. A routine makes it stick.
