Slips, trips and falls housekeeping poster

Slips, trips and falls are among the most common workplace injuries, and most of them come down to housekeeping: a spill left on the floor, a cable across a walkway, a box on the stairs. This poster lists eight habits that prevent them, each with a short why, for corridors, stairs and busy aisles.

The words on the poster

Slips, trips and falls

Good housekeeping prevents most of them.

  • Clean spills now Or cover, mark and report them. Find the leak.
  • Keep walkways clear Nothing stored on marked walkways or by exits.
  • Route cables and hoses Overhead or along walls, never across a walkway.
  • Wear the right footwear Slip-resistant soles, laces done up.
  • Use the handrail On every stair. Carry loads so you can see your feet.
  • Use the right ladder Never climb racking, chairs or boxes.
  • Report poor lighting Dark corners hide trip hazards.
  • Report damaged floors Holes, loose mats and lifted edges.
  • Clean as you go. A place for everything, and everything in its place.

On the floor

How to use it

  1. 1

Hang it in corridors, at stair landings and near wash-down or wet areas.

  2. 2

Walk the area with the poster and check each habit once a week.

  3. 3

Combine it with 5S: a place for everything keeps walkways clear.

  4. 4

Report damaged floors or poor lighting the same day, using your hazard report.

Which size to print

  • 24 x 36 in or A2: a main wall or team board, read from a few metres away.
  • 18 x 24 in or A3: a station or notice board. The A3 file also fits 11 x 17 in paper.
  • Letter or A4: a clipboard, binder or handout, on any office printer.

Every PDF is vector, so it stays sharp at full size. Nothing runs to the edge of the page, so no bleed is needed.

A poster reminds. A routine makes it stick.
