Reactive, preventive, proactive poster

Every problem can be handled at three levels. Reactive: fix it where it happened. Preventive: read the lesson across to similar machines, lines and products that have not had the problem yet. Proactive: feed it into the design of the next product or line so the problem cannot start there. A problem is only fully closed after all three. This poster shows the three levels with one leaking hose followed through.

The words on the poster

Reactive, preventive, proactive

Fix it here. Check it everywhere like it. Design it out of the next one.

  • Here Reactive: it happened here. Fix it. A real problem, its cost and how often. Example: a hose leaks on line A.
  • There Preventive: it could happen there. Check it. Read across to similar machines and lines. Example: check lines B and C.
  • Next Proactive: it can't happen next time. Feed it into new designs and launches. Example: new hose spec for the next line.
  • Closed means read across and built into the next design.

  2. 2

Before closing a problem, ask the three questions on the poster.

  3. 3

  4. 4

Pair it with the free yokoten tracker and CAPA log.

Which size to print

  • 24 x 36 in or A2: a main wall or team board, read from a few metres away.
  • 18 x 24 in or A3: a station or notice board. The A3 file also fits 11 x 17 in paper.
  • Letter or A4: a clipboard, binder or handout, on any office printer.

Every PDF is vector, so it stays sharp at full size. Nothing runs to the edge of the page, so no bleed is needed.

A poster reminds. A routine makes it stick.
