KPI tree poster

A KPI tree links the plant's top goals to the measures each area and team works on, so every measure on a team board moves a number above it. Read down, it shows who has to act; read up, it shows why the action matters. This poster follows one example chain from a plant goal on cost per good unit, through an area result and a line measure, to a team action and the daily check that proves it was done.

The words on the poster

KPI tree: goal to action

Read down to find who acts. Read up to see why it matters.

One example chain

  • Plant goal Lower cost per good unit this year.
  • Area result Higher OEE on the packing lines.
  • Line measure Fewer minutes of small stops per shift.
  • Team action Clean and check the infeed sensors at every shift start.
  • Daily check Sensor check done? Yes or no, on the team board.
  • Links to nothing above it? Stop tracking it, or find the goal it serves.

How to use it

Putting the KPI tree poster to work

  1. 1

Put it where goals are deployed, next to the plant's goals or X-matrix.

  2. 2

Build one chain per plant goal with the team leaders, on the wall, with sticky notes.

  3. 3

Use the closing rule to clear boards of measures that link to nothing.

  4. 4

Pair it with the free SMART goals template and manufacturing KPI dashboard.

Which size to print

  • 24 x 36 in or A2: a main wall or team board, read from a few metres away.
  • 18 x 24 in or A3: a station or notice board. The A3 file also fits 11 x 17 in paper.
  • Letter or A4: a clipboard, binder or handout, on any office printer.

Every PDF is vector, so it stays sharp at full size. Nothing runs to the edge of the page, so no bleed is needed.

A poster reminds. A routine makes it stick.
