Set in order poster: where, what, how many

Set in order, the second S, gives every item a home, so it can be found, taken and put back without searching. The home works when its label answers three questions: where is it (the location address), what is it (name and part number) and how many (the minimum and maximum). This poster shows the three questions and five rules for homes: marked, near the point of use, one motion to take and return, one label style, and an empty home that tells you something is missing.

How to use it

Putting the Set in order poster: where, what, how many poster to work

  1. 1

Take five labels in the area and check them against the three questions.

  2. 2

Use it when you plan a new layout or rack, before you print labels.

  3. 3

Put it on the 5S board in areas working on the second S.

  4. 4

Pair it with the free floor marking colour guide and plan for every part template.

Which size to print

  • 24 x 36 in or A2: a main wall or team board, read from a few metres away.
  • 18 x 24 in or A3: a station or notice board. The A3 file also fits 11 x 17 in paper.
  • Letter or A4: a clipboard, binder or handout, on any office printer.

Every PDF is vector, so it stays sharp at full size. Nothing runs to the edge of the page, so no bleed is needed.

A poster reminds. A routine makes it stick.
