Red tag event poster

A red tag event is how a team does the first S, sort: everything in the area that the work does not need gets a red tag and goes to a holding area, where it is kept, moved, sold, recycled or scrapped by a set date. Done well it clears space in a day; done badly the holding area becomes a new store. This poster sets out the six steps and has blanks for the holding area and who decides.

How to use it

Putting the Red tag event poster to work

  1. 1

Put it up in the area a week before the event, so people know what is coming.

  2. 2

Fill in the blanks for the holding area, the decision date and the owner of the red tag log.

  3. 3

Read the rules in step 1 out loud before anyone starts tagging.

  4. 4

Pair it with the free red tag log and the 5S poster.

Where the poster goes and how to teach with it, in the order to try them.

Which size to print

  • 24 x 36 in or A2: a main wall or team board, read from a few metres away.
  • 18 x 24 in or A3: a station or notice board. The A3 file also fits 11 x 17 in paper.
  • Letter or A4: a clipboard, binder or handout, on any office printer.

Every PDF is vector, so it stays sharp at full size. Nothing runs to the edge of the page, so no bleed is needed.

A poster reminds. A routine makes it stick.
