Suggestion system poster

A suggestion system is the way a plant collects, answers and acts on improvement ideas from everyone. Ideas keep coming only if the loop closes every time: the idea is shared, it gets an answer quickly (yes or no, with a reason), it is tried with the person who had it, and that person is thanked in public and the idea copied to other areas. This poster draws the loop and leaves space to write where ideas go and how fast you promise to reply.

The idea loop

Ideas keep coming when every one of them gets an answer.

  • Share The problem and your idea. A sketch helps.
  • Answer A quick reply, yes or no, with the reason.
  • Try Test it small, with the person who had it.
  • Thank Say thank you in public. Copy it elsewhere.
  • Every idea gets an answer. A fast no with a reason beats a slow yes.
  • Ideas go to: ____
  • We reply within (days): ____

How to use it

Putting the Suggestion system poster to work

  1. 1

Put it at the idea board or box, with the two blanks filled in.

  2. 2

Keep the reply promise and track it: an unanswered idea stops the next ten.

  3. 3

Use the last step in the team meeting: thank the person, by name, for the idea that was tried.

  4. 4

Pair it with the free idea suggestion form and employee recognition program template.

Which size to print

  • 24 x 36 in or A2: a main wall or team board, read from a few metres away.
  • 18 x 24 in or A3: a station or notice board. The A3 file also fits 11 x 17 in paper.
  • Letter or A4: a clipboard, binder or handout, on any office printer.

Every PDF is vector, so it stays sharp at full size. Nothing runs to the edge of the page, so no bleed is needed.

A poster reminds. A routine makes it stick.
