Spare parts min/max poster

A spare parts store works when every bin shows its minimum and maximum: order when stock falls to the minimum, and order up to the maximum. The minimum covers what is used while a new order arrives, plus a safety margin. This poster explains min, max and the bin label, and the five habits that keep the store honest: log every withdrawal, order on the day the minimum is reached, protect critical spares, count and review, and send repairable parts back for repair.

The words on the poster

Spare parts: min and max

Order at the min, up to the max. Never wait for the bin to be empty.

On every bin

  • Min Order here. Covers the wait, plus a margin.
  • Max Order up to it, no more.
  • Label Part number, what it fits, location.

Keep it working

  • Log every withdrawal At the time, against the machine.
  • At the min, order The same day, not when it runs out.
  • Protect critical spares Long lead time, critical machine: check them first.
  • Count and review Change min and max when use or lead time changes.
  • Repairables go back Tagged, for repair, not into the bin.

How to use it

Putting the Spare parts min/max poster to work

  1. 1

Hang it in the maintenance stores and at the counter where parts are issued.

  2. 2

Check a handful of bins against it: are min, max and the location on every label?

  3. 3

Review min and max for critical spares when a lead time or the usage changes.

  4. 4

Pair it with the free critical spare parts list and reorder point and safety stock sheet.

Which size to print

  • 24 x 36 in or A2: a main wall or team board, read from a few metres away.
  • 18 x 24 in or A3: a station or notice board. The A3 file also fits 11 x 17 in paper.
  • Letter or A4: a clipboard, binder or handout, on any office printer.

Every PDF is vector, so it stays sharp at full size. Nothing runs to the edge of the page, so no bleed is needed.

A poster reminds. A routine makes it stick.
