Buyer's guide

Best OEE software

The best OEE software depends on how you capture the data. Evocon, MachineMetrics, Vorne XL, Shoplogix and Amper read run and stop signals from the machine. Tulip and L2L connect machines or take operator input. LeanSuite tracks OEE as a managed KPI, with loss reasons, Pareto charts and actions.

In more detail: Overall equipment effectiveness software comes in two kinds. Machine-connected tools (Evocon, MachineMetrics, Vorne XL, Shoplogix and Amper) read run and stop signals from a sensor, a PLC or an IIoT device, time every stop automatically and ask the operator for the reason; they are the choice when minutes of unplanned downtime are the problem and you want them counted without anyone typing. Platform tools (Tulip and L2L) connect machines too but treat OEE as one app or module among many. LeanSuite is different: it does not read machines. It tracks OEE, downtime and output as KPIs whose values are typed, uploaded or read on a schedule from Excel or Google Sheets, with reason codes, a Pareto of losses, red limits that start an action with an owner, and the tier meeting where the action is reviewed. It suits plants whose OEE already comes out of an MES, an ERP or a shift log and who need the management system around the number, not a second data collection layer.

Who wrote this: LeanSuite publishes this guide, and LeanSuite is one of the eight products on it. It is listed first because it is our product; the others follow in alphabetical order, which is not a ranking. Every other product is described only from its own public pages, and each entry says where that product fits better than ours.

How we chose these tools

OEE multiplies availability, performance and quality into one number for a machine, a line or a plant. Software for it collects the run time, the stops and their reasons, the count and the rejects, works out the three factors and shows where the losses are. Each product on this list meets all of these:

  • OEE is a named feature

The vendor's own pages describe OEE tracking, dashboards or reports, not only a blog post about the formula.

  • Built for manufacturing

Manufacturers are a main market for the product, and the OEE features are shown on production equipment.

  • An established company

The vendor has a real company behind it and is at least our size; smaller vendors are left off this guide.

  • Still sold in 2026

A live product page with a way to buy, trial or book a demo.

  • Public information

Enough on the vendor's own pages to say how machine data gets in and how reasons are captured. Where pricing or security is not published, the table says so.

Worked example

One filling line, one shift, and where the OEE went

An illustrative line, not a customer: an 8-hour shift with a 30-minute planned break, a rated speed of 60 bottles a minute, 21,000 bottles produced and 630 rejected. Every tool on this page would work out the same three factors; they differ in how the stop minutes and reasons get in.

  1. 1. Availability

Planned production time is 450 minutes. Stops: a 35-minute changeover, a 25-minute label jam and three short stops of 5 minutes, 75 minutes in all. Run time is 375 minutes, so availability is 375 / 450 = 83.3%. A machine-connected tool times these stops itself; in LeanSuite the shift log supplies them.

  2. 2. Performance

At 60 bottles a minute the line could have made 22,500 in 375 minutes. It made 21,000, so performance is 21,000 / 22,500 = 93.3%. The missing 1,500 bottles are slow running and micro-stops too short to log.

  3. 3. Quality

630 of 21,000 were rejected, so 20,370 good bottles and quality of 97.0%.

  4. 4. OEE and the Pareto

OEE is 0.833 x 0.933 x 0.970 = 75.4%. The reason codes show the changeover (35 minutes) and the label jam (25 minutes) are 80% of the lost availability, so the first action is a SMED event on the changeover, with an owner and a due date, reviewed at the Tier 2 meeting.

Result: OEE of 75.4% on this shift, with two reasons behind most of the loss. The number alone changes nothing; the action with an owner does. Choose a machine-connected tool when the hard part is counting the minutes, and a managed-KPI tool when the hard part is what happens after the number turns red.

Eight OEE tools: LeanSuite first, then alphabetical

  1. 1. LeanSuite

Lean manufacturing software that treats OEE as a managed KPI rather than a machine feed. Availability, performance, quality and OEE are KPIs with a definition, a target and an owner; values are typed in at the huddle, uploaded as a CSV with one-time column mapping, or read on a schedule from Excel on SharePoint or OneDrive or from Google Sheets, and an ERP or MES source is confirmed on a call. LeanSuite does not connect to machines, sensors or PLCs. Each result carries the reason codes behind it, ranked in a Pareto chart; a KPI is flagged the moment new data crosses its limit and the team starts an action plan from it, with an owner and a due date, that is reviewed at the tier meeting and can escalate to a kaizen, an A3 or a root cause analysis. Line KPIs roll up to the plant and the company by sum or average. Six big losses worksheets, downtime reason code templates and a free OEE calculator sit alongside. One flat price per facility with unlimited users; a 90-day pilot costs $3,000 per facility.

Best for: Plants whose OEE already comes out of an MES, an ERP or a shift log and who need the loss reasons, actions and tier meetings around the number.

    LeanSuite KPI dashboards

  2. 2. Amper

A production monitoring and intelligence platform, now part of ECI Software Solutions. Non-invasive electrical sensors clip onto any powered machine with no PLC integration, and PLC integrations are offered too; the sensors detect each stop and count cycles automatically, and the operator logs the downtime reason and calls for support in one click on a touchscreen. It reports uptime, cycle times and OEE with the availability, performance and quality split, shows live scoreboards, sends smart alerts by phone or email, and its AI adds a daily briefing, trend analysis and a continuous improvement assistant that names the biggest bottlenecks from the downtime and OEE data. Pricing is tailored and not published; the hardware is part of the solution. Security certifications are not stated on the pages we read.

Best for: Job shops and contract manufacturers that want plug-in sensors on old and new machines without touching the PLC.

    Amper website

  3. 3. Evocon

Cloud OEE software from Estonia. A signal from a new or existing sensor, or from a PLC output connected through a relay, goes to Evocon's IIoT device and on to its AWS cloud; a hardware-free option lets machines log to a local database and send data over HTTPS. Operators record stop reasons on a shop-floor display on a PC, tablet or TV. It shows real-time OEE, downtime tracking, machine utilization and a Shift View that compares dates, stations, factories and countries. It publishes pricing per machine per month, billed annually: Basic $219, Professional $289 and Enterprise $379 on a one-year term, less on three years, plus $24 a month for the IIoT device, with unlimited users and a 30-day free trial. Its security page says it was recertified under ISO/IEC 27001:2022; single sign-on starts at Professional. An AI Analyst in beta answers questions on Professional and Enterprise.

Best for: Plants that want a clear per-machine price and sensor-based OEE running in days, with operators entering the reasons.

    Evocon website

  4. 4. L2L

A connected manufacturing operations platform with modules for shop floor execution, maintenance, production and skills. Its Machine Data Sync connects PLCs, SCADA systems and IIoT devices to automate OEE calculations and downtime tracking, and its platform page says teams can start before machines are connected. Digital production boards and OEE reports run per line and site, alerts and escalations fire when output drifts, and manufacturing intelligence compares performance across plants. Its Execution AI solvers cover root cause intelligence, failure pattern and PM audits and prescriptive repair guidance. Its security page says its compliance programs are based on SOC 2 Type 2 and NIST 800-171, with single-tenant hosting on AWS or AWS GovCloud. It runs in a browser and on Windows, Mac, Android and iOS. Pricing is not published.

Best for: Plants that want OEE tied to maintenance work orders, production boards and skills in one execution platform.

    LeanSuite vs L2LL2L website

  5. 5. MachineMetrics

An AI-powered manufacturing operations system, now called MaximaOS, built around direct machine connectivity. An Edge device collects data over protocols such as FANUC FOCAS and OPC-UA, and older machines are wired through digital I/O with photo eyes or proximity sensors in a few hours each. Availability, performance and quality are derived from machine data against real schedules and traced to the shift, job and event; a touchscreen at the machine asks the operator to categorize downtime as it happens, and a rules engine categorizes some events automatically. It shows real-time downtime Pareto charts, sends text and email alerts, compares OEE by shift, machine and job, and its Max AI answers plain-language questions, guides setup at the machine and writes shift summaries. Plans run from a Core Platform to Enterprise for several sites. Pricing is a volume-based subscription per machine with unlimited users; no figures are published. Its site says it is ISO 27001 certified, with OIDC single sign-on documented.

Best for: CNC and discrete job shops that want machine-level data with job and schedule context, and MES and ERP links.

    MachineMetrics website

  6. 6. Shoplogix

A smart factory platform from Oakville, Ontario. It says it connects any machine regardless of age or protocol with no extra hardware, and also sells self-powered batteryless sensors that bolt or clip on. Dashboards show OEE, expected against actual targets, cycle speeds, scrap and unplanned downtime, with real-time summaries by shift, machine and job; operators enter downtime and scrap reasons in real time on a screen the vendor says takes under five minutes to learn. Alerts go to operators and supervisors, plants can be connected and compared across regions, and add-ons cover maintenance, quality and team communication. Pulse AI answers questions about OEE, downtime, quality, shifts and jobs with cited numbers and does not train on your data. Plans are Production Pulse, Smart Factory and Enterprise; prices are not published. Security certifications are not stated on the pages we read.

Best for: Multi-plant manufacturers that want OEE with maintenance and quality add-ons on one platform and plant-to-plant comparison.

    Shoplogix website

  7. 7. Tulip

A no-code frontline operations platform where OEE is one app among the ones your engineers build. Machine run and stop states come in natively over OPC UA and MQTT, through edge hardware for older equipment, or from guided operator screens on fully manual lines; the operator picks the downtime reason from a configured list, and the screen can appear on its own when a fault occurs. It tracks availability, performance and quality by line and shift, rolls reasons up into Pareto charts and fires andon-style alert automations. Tulip AI answers plain-language questions on the OEE and downtime tables and adds vision, OCR and translation elsewhere. It publishes pricing per interface (device), billed annually with a 10-interface minimum: Essentials $100 and Professional $250 a month, with Machine Monitoring as an unpriced add-on. Its trust center lists a SOC 2 report and ISO 9001:2015, with single sign-on, SAML and LDAP from Professional.

Best for: Teams with engineers who want to build their own OEE and operator apps and connect machines over OPC UA or MQTT.

  8. 8. Vorne XL

An edge appliance from Vorne in Itasca, Illinois, sold as an all-in-one IIoT platform for productivity. The XL unit mounts at the line, connects to one or two sensors or to an existing photo-eye, relay, PLC or proximity switch, and holds its own database and browser reporting with more than 100 metrics, a built-in OEE dashboard, an OEE deep dive and a TEEP report, with data stored behind your firewall. Operators scan down and reject reason barcodes, and a relay output reminds them when a reason is missing; an HDMI output drives a scoreboard on any TV and the free XL Sidekick app adds a second screen. It publishes single-unit prices with no recurring cost: XL Touch $4,990, XL HD+ $4,690 and XL810-1 $4,490, with barcode kits from $298, volume discounts and a free 90-day trial for qualified applications. No security certifications or AI features are named on the pages we read.

Best for: Single lines or plants that want an owned appliance with a one-time price, a floor scoreboard and no subscription.

Where LeanSuite is different

This part is about our own product, so read it as LeanSuite's pitch; the entries above describe every other tool from its own pages. Each point links to the LeanSuite page that shows it.

  • A missed KPI starts an action plan

Set Red-Amber-Green ranges and whether up or down is good. A KPI is flagged as soon as new data crosses a limit, the team starts an action plan from it, and the same KPI shows on the huddle board.

    KPI targets and alerts
  • Department KPIs roll up on their own

Department KPIs roll up to the plant and the company automatically, by sum or average. The reasons behind each result are recorded and ranked in a Pareto chart, and each role gets its own dashboard.

    KPI trees and roll-up
  • The board's numbers, from where they already live

KPIs are typed in during the huddle or pulled from LeanSuite forms, ERP, MES, Excel, Google Sheets or a CSV upload, and Power BI or Looker Studio reports can be embedded on the same board.

    KPI Dashboards
  • A repeat problem becomes a Kaizen in one click

When the same issue keeps coming back, escalate it into a Kaizen or A3 project and work on the root cause. Reports show which areas and assets keep generating issues, and the live floor plan shows where they cluster.

    From issue to Kaizen

Where LeanSuite is not the right fit

The honest limits of our own product for this category, so you can rule it out quickly if one of these matters to you.

  • LeanSuite does not connect to machines, sensors or PLCs, and does not detect line stops. If nobody logs the stop, LeanSuite does not know about it. Every other tool on this page reads the machine.
  • Refresh follows the data source: form entries appear at once, but Excel, Google Sheets and CSV values arrive on the schedule you set or when uploaded, not second by second.
  • An ERP or MES feed is set up with us on a call, not switched on from a catalogue of connectors.
  • There is no built-in scoreboard hardware or andon light output; a KPI board on a TV is a browser page.

Is LeanSuite right for you?

LeanSuite is likely a fit if

  • Your OEE, downtime and output numbers already exist in an MES, an ERP, a shift log or a spreadsheet, and the gap is what happens after they turn red.
  • You want loss reasons ranked in a Pareto, an action with an owner started from the red KPI, and the tier meeting where it is reviewed, in the same system as kaizen, audits and skills.
  • One price per facility with unlimited users suits you better than a price per machine or per device.

Choose another tool if

  • Evocon: you want sensor-based OEE with a published per-machine price and operators entering reasons on a screen.
  • MachineMetrics: you run CNC or discrete machines and want OEE derived from the machine against the schedule, with MES and ERP links.
  • Vorne XL: you want a one-time purchase that sits at the line with its own scoreboard and keeps the data behind your firewall.
  • Amper: your machines are old or mixed and you want sensors that need no PLC work.
  • Shoplogix: you compare many plants and want maintenance and quality on the same platform.
  • L2L: OEE should drive maintenance work orders and production boards in one execution system.
  • Tulip: your engineers will build the OEE app themselves and connect machines over OPC UA or MQTT.

Put the management system around your OEE number

Try LeanSuite in your browser with sample data, or book a demo and bring last month's OEE and downtime log. If you are not ready for software, start with the free OEE calculator, the six big losses worksheet and the downtime reason codes template.

What the 45-minute demo shows

For OEE, the demo takes last month's downtime log into a KPI with reason codes and follows the red number to an action. LeanSuite does not connect to machines.

Bring one process you want to fix, and how you run it today. We show the same job in LeanSuite and answer your questions.

In the demo

  1. KPIs typed in at the huddle or pulled from Excel, Google Sheets, ERP or MES, with red, amber and green limits that start an action plan.
  2. A Tier 1 huddle on a Lean Studio board, an item escalated to Tier 2 with its photos and history, and the answer sent back down.
  3. The RCA Agent drafting a 5 Whys and fishbone from your problem, your manuals and past issues, with the kept countermeasures landing as owned actions.

Want to run LeanSuite on your own lines instead? The 90-day pilot is $3,000 per facility, set up by our team, with the first module live in under a week.

FAQ

Best OEE Software: common questions

  1. Software that works out overall equipment effectiveness, the product of availability, performance and quality, for a machine, line or plant, and shows where the losses are. Machine-connected tools read run and stop signals from a sensor, PLC or IIoT device and ask the operator for the stop reason. Managed-KPI tools take the numbers from an MES, an ERP, a shift log or a spreadsheet and add reason codes, Pareto charts, limits and actions.

  2. It depends on how the data should get in. For sensor-based OEE with a published per-machine price, look at Evocon; for CNC and discrete machines with job context, MachineMetrics; for a one-time appliance, Vorne XL; for plug-in sensors with no PLC work, Amper; for many plants with maintenance and quality add-ons, Shoplogix; for OEE inside an execution platform, L2L; to build your own OEE app, Tulip. If your OEE already comes out of an MES, an ERP or a shift log and you need the actions and meetings around it, look at LeanSuite. LeanSuite is our product.

  3. No, but it changes what the tool is good at. A machine connection counts every stop and its length without anyone typing, which matters when the problem is minutes of unplanned downtime nobody records. Where OEE is already calculated by an MES or logged each shift, a managed-KPI tool can take those values and focus on the reasons, the Pareto and the action that follows a red number.

  4. No. LeanSuite does not read machine signals and does not detect line stops. Its OEE, downtime and output KPIs take values typed in at the huddle, uploaded as a CSV, or read on a schedule from Excel on SharePoint or OneDrive or from Google Sheets; an ERP or MES feed is confirmed on a call. What LeanSuite adds is the management around the number: reason codes, a Pareto of losses, a limit that starts an action with an owner, and the tier meeting where it is reviewed.

  5. Evocon publishes $219, $289 and $379 per machine a month on a one-year term, billed annually, plus $24 a month for its IIoT device. Vorne XL publishes one-time unit prices from $4,490 to $4,990. Tulip publishes $100 and $250 a month per interface with a 10-interface minimum, and prices Machine Monitoring separately. Amper, L2L, MachineMetrics and Shoplogix quote each customer. LeanSuite quotes per facility with unlimited users, with a 90-day pilot at $3,000 per facility.

  6. OEE = availability x performance x quality. Availability is run time divided by planned production time. Performance is actual output divided by what the rated speed would have made in the run time. Quality is good units divided by total units. A line that runs 375 of 450 planned minutes (83.3%), makes 21,000 of a possible 22,500 (93.3%) and passes 97.0% of them has an OEE of 75.4%. The free OEE calculator on this site does the sum.

  7. Because it is our page and we would rather say so than hide it in the middle. Read it with that in mind. The other products follow in alphabetical order, each is described only from its own public pages, each entry says who it fits best, and we will correct anything a vendor or reader shows us is wrong.

  8. We read each vendor's own public pages in October 2026 and used only what they publish. Where we could not find something, the table says not published, which does not mean the product lacks it. LeanSuite is our product. If something has changed, email info@theleansuite.com and we will update the page.
