Inspection and audit templates, ready in LeanSuite

These are the inspection and audit templates our team built in the LeanSuite app, in the Template Marketplace inside Lean Creator. Each page shows the full question list, how often to run it, what is recorded at the start and the pass mark it is scored against. To use one, clone it into your plant and change any question to fit how your area works.

Safety inspections and audits

Most safety inspections in a plant are short and frequent: a pre-use check on a lift truck, a weekly eyewash test, a monthly walk of exits and extinguishers. Audits go wider and look at a whole program, such as lockout, hazard communication or contractor control. Both work best on a fixed schedule with a named owner, so a missed check shows up. This group covers equipment, the work area, emergency readiness and the safety programs behind them.

Quality and food safety

Quality checks are there to catch a problem while the product is still in the building. These run from incoming material and first article checks, through line clearance, setups and in-process sampling, to the final check before a truck leaves. Behind them sit the system audits: document control, calibration, complaint handling and ISO 9001. Food and pharma plants will also find GMP, HACCP, allergen, hygiene and mock audit templates here.

Maintenance and equipment

Many failures give a warning first: a hose that weeps, a motor running hot, a belt starting to fray. These are the rounds and checks that catch the warning, from daily machine checks by operators and boiler room rounds to monthly inspections of compressors, pumps and HVAC units. A second set audits the maintenance system itself: work order closure, spare parts, lubrication and PM compliance.

Lean, 5S and daily management

A lean routine slips quietly when nobody checks it. These audits look at whether the routines still run the way they were set up: 5S and visual standards in each area, standard work at the station, tier huddles and production boards, gemba walks, changeovers, andon response and kaizen follow-up. Post the scores on the area's board so the team sees the trend, not only the auditor.

Warehouse and logistics

Warehouse audits protect two things at once: the people moving material and the accuracy of what ships. This group follows material through the building, from receiving and put-away to storage, picking, packing and loading, with dock doors, yard ramps, cycle counts and returns along the way. It also has audits for outside partners, such as third-party logistics providers and milk run deliveries.

36 templates

Environment and energy

Environmental and energy work is mostly routine checks on the floor: a stocked spill kit, a bund with no liquid in it, an air leak tagged, lights off in an empty bay. This group covers waste, spills, emissions, wastewater and permits, the ISO 14001 internal audit, and energy walks and surveys that find waste worth fixing. Log what each walk finds so it turns into an action with an owner.

What one looks like

A sample template, filled in

From the lockout/tagout audit checklist: one section as it might be filled in on the floor, with every other section answered Yes. The place and finding are made up to show how the audit reads and scores.

Result: pass, 94.7% against a pass mark of 80

  • 19 questions, all of them count.
  • 1 answered No, so 18 of 19 are Yes: 18 ÷ 19 = 94.7%.
  • 94.7% is at or above 80, so the audit passes. The No still needs its fix.

What happened next: Supervisor stopped the job, try-out done with a second person at the HMI, procedure updated to a two-person try-out that week.

Scored here as one point per question with N/A left out. In the app each answer carries the points set on the template, so change them after you clone it if your plant weighs some checks more.

Stored energy and verification

  1. Stored or residual energy is released, restrained or blockedYes
  2. A try-out (attempt to start) confirms zero energy after isolationNo

Comment: Electrical and air isolated and locked, but no start attempt made. Technician said the HMI was too far from the panel to reach.

FAQs

Questions about inspection and audit templates

  1. An inspection checks the condition of a thing or an area at one moment: is the guard on, is the floor dry, is the extinguisher charged. An audit checks whether a process or system is followed: is the lockout done the way the procedure says, are internal audits held on time. In this library an inspection passes at 90 and an audit at 80.

  2. In LeanSuite, open the Template Marketplace inside Lean Creator, find the template by the name shown on its page and clone it into your plant. Change any question, then schedule it to a person, role or asset with reminders.

  3. Several have a free printable twin on the main templates page, such as the 5S audit, the safety audit and the pallet racking inspection. Each app template page links its printable version when there is one.

  4. Every question is answered Yes, No or N/A. A No is flagged and asks for a photo and a comment. Each template has points per answer and a pass mark, and every submitted report shows its score and pass or fail.
